Paratal Sevashram located in Burdwan, West Bengal, India is a community service organization serving Paratal Village and seventeen additional surrounding villages. These are all agricultural villages known for potato and rice farming located on the Adi Damodar river canal not far from the mighty Damodar River.
Paratal Sevashram’s programs include music and art classes for children, free distribution of textbooks, women’s education programs, free creche (daycare) for poor working families, health care services, health education, farmer training, tool repair and manufacturing. In addition, the Sevashram organizes annual sports days, religious holiday functions such a Saraswati Puja, and an annual Sharadiya celebration with Yatra Naatak (plays and dance dramas). Free communal meals and distribution of clothes to those in need are also conducted in conjunction with annual festivities.
